Fighting the cuts, finding the evidence

Back to all Motions

Conference
2013 National LGBT Conference
Date
2 August 2013
Decision
Carried

Conference notes that there have been many anecdotal reports of the disproportionate impact of the government’s austerity measures on lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people but a lack of hard evidence to date.

Conference therefore welcomes the support of UNISON’s General Political Fund (GPF) in funding the national LGBT group to commission research in this area.

Conference instructs the National LGBT Committee, working with regional and branch self organised groups and service groups where appropriate, to:

1. Disseminate the research findings to as wide an audience as possible as part of our campaign against the cuts and in defence of public services;

2. Use the research as a recruitment tool, highlighting the need to be in a union at a time of savage cuts to LGBT people’s jobs.
