Dealing with Disability in the Workplace

Back to all Motions

Conference
2013 National Disabled Members' Conference
Date
21 June 2013
Decision
Carried as Amended

This conference recognises the increased pressure put on disabled members by managers and supervisors being unaware of the responsibilities under the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA).

This lack of knowledge puts additional strain on our disabled members and often results in them having to stay off work longer that required due to the lack of reasonable adjustment being made or Occupational Health or other professional advice being ignored for no reason.

All workers have a right to be treated fairly at work and the majority of problems arise from the lack of training and understanding on the impact of disabilities on workers and how to make these adjustments.

Conference therefore calls on the National Disabled Members Committee to work with service groups to produce information for Branches to use when representing disabled members to ensure they can return to work confident that they can work in a safe and healthy environment free from discrimination.
