Education Cuts

Back to all Motions

Conference
2011 Retired Members' Conference
Date
26 May 2011
Decision
Carried as Amended

Conference is concerned about the increase in tuition fees for all areas of post-16 education. This is not only means for younger people as many retired people make full use of these facilities. Increases in fees apply not only to universities and colleges but to adult education courses and providers such as the workers education association and the abolition of the Education Maintenance Allowance which has led to the loss of courses as a consequence of lower take up by younger people.

Conference requests that the National Retired Members’ Committee calls on the National Executive Council to liaise with any other relevant organisations to campaign for a reversal of this policy of cuts in education funding.
