Conference is aware that the Two tick Scheme and all it is supposed to entail is perceived to be a benefit for the disabled employees in the workplace. However, we as public services disabled workers are painfully aware, most employers covet the symbol as a cosmetic image rather than a declaration of positive attitude towards disabled employees.
Conference instructs the National Disabled Members’ Committee to pursue through all channels available a campaign to persuade the Department of Work and Pensions to totally reconfigure the Two Tick Scheme to:
1.include mandatory and appropriate disability awareness training for managers
2.encourage employees to use the ‘whistle-blowing’ procedure where their employer fails to maintain the standards
3.develop fully a performance and monitoring system with employers and to liaise with job centres to ensure standards are met.
4.request that the scheme be made mandatory on all employers
