RESTRICTIONS IN CAR USER ALLOWANCES AND ACCESSIBLE VEHICLES

Conference
2010 National Disabled Members' Conference
Date
9 July 2010
Decision
Carried

This Conference is concerned that many employers are cutting the mileage they will pay for disabled people who use their own vehicle for work purposes. We recognise that campaigns for the reduction in car usage and limiting the engine size that can be used for work purposes to 1000cc promotes the climate change agenda. However this can have a detrimental adverse impact on disabled people who need to use adapted or accessible vehicles. It is very difficult to get an accessible vehicle of less than 1000cc and pool cars provided by employers are rarely, if ever accessible.

This Conference calls upon the National Disabled Members Committee to:

1.Promote the need for disabled people to be able to use adapted or accessible vehicles for work purposes

2.Campaign to prevent disabled people from being included in the reduction of mileage allowances where appropriate
