RECORDING ETHNIC ORIGIN DATA ON THE RMS

Conference
2010 National Black Members' Conference
Date

Decision
Carried

This conference notes that the RMS system still does not record data on the ethnic origins of all our members.

Information is collected on members joining branches, however a member could change job in their workplace and never complete a membership update form. In order to have accurate records on the ethnic origins of all UNISON members, so that we can identify Black members, there needs to be a campaign to encourage all members to update their details. This will then enable a better organisation of Black members in UNISON.

This conference calls upon the National Black Members’ Committee to:

1.Work with the National Executive Council (NEC) to ensure that RMS data is updated regularly;

2.Encourage members to update their membership record either on line or via branches;

3.Work with NEC to publish annual progress report;

4.To communicate to branches the importance of keeping up to date records through the RMS.
