VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN

Back to all Motions

Conference
2009 National Women's Conference
Date
23 October 2008
Decision
Carried as Amended

Conference recognises that the issue of violence against women is something that many women feel passionately about tackling. Women who are not politically active in other ways attend Reclaim the Night events or support local refuges.

Therefore this issue should be used as not only a campaigning issue but an organising one as well. There are opportunities to not only recruit more women as members but also to encourage more women activists around this issue.

Conference calls on the National Women’s Committee to work with Regional Women’s Committees to facilitate women in branches to:

1)Get involved in local violence against women partnerships.

2)Encourage male colleagues, friends and relatives to participate in the White ribbon campaign.

3)Participate in Reclaim the Night events.

4)Hold exhibitions/events and work with community groups during the 16 days of action for the Elimination of Violence Against Women which takes place each year in the autumn.
