Date

Decision
Carried as Amended

Conference notes that UNISON has been represented on the National Advisory Group for the Review of Age Discrimination in Health and Social Care which is due to report to the Secretary of State for Health in October 2009.

Conference further notes that the Review’s objectives are to recommend:

i.The timetable by which health and adult social care organisations will implement the ending of unjustifiable age discriminatory practice of services as set out in the Equality bill;

ii.For which health and adult social care services it is beneficial and therefore objectively justifiable to retain age-based differentiation;

iii.The key actions that the health and social care system should take to make demonstrable progress in meeting their obligations as quickly as possible; and

iv.Advise the Secretary of State on how to support the health and social care system to implement the public sector equality duty in respect of all ages.

Conference therefore requests that the National Retired Members’ Committee respond as appropriate on behalf of UNISON’s Retired Members’ Organisation to the Review when published.
