Everywhere publicly provided care essential for older people in our society is under attack. UNISON has already demonstrated the extent to which the mass transfers to the private and voluntary sectors have taken place. We have also demonstrated subsequent reductions in the quality of care.
In a society with an ageing population with increased social care needs, ordinary people will respond to a high profile UNISON campaign to maintain and develop care for older people by public service delivery and direct improvement of care already provided externally.
Conference calls of the National Executive Council to spearhead a union wide campaign on this issue and commends the collaborative partnership model developed by UNISON and the Northern Ireland Care Homes Project.
