This conference recognises that it is a long established fact that women with caring responsibilities may suffer a detriment when they retire because of a reduction in pension.

For many years, women’s choice has been between having a career and a comfortable retirement or raising their own children and being poor in retirement. Some women try to juggle work and a family and suffer the trauma/stress at leaving their children with child carers/nurseries when they have to return to work.

The Government should recognise the value of women carers and should ensure their pension contributions are maintained to give them an independent sufficient retirement pension.

Conference asks that National Women’s Committee:

1)Work with the Policy Development & Campaigns Committee of NEC and Labour Link to address this issue, to develop a campaign
