Conference is aware that there is a payment issue when Christmas Day, Boxing Day and/or New Years Day falls on a weekend. Staff, unlike officers, are only paid Bank Holiday rates for the days designated as Bank Holidays and can end up working the actual days with no additional payment. Following the last series which ended on 26 December 2005, Conference, in that year, instructed the Service Group Executive to resolve this issue by achieving parity with officers prior to the next series commencing on Boxing Day 2009.
Conference is concerned that this issue is still unresolved and instructs the SGE to:
1)inform all branches by 31 December 2008 on progress made to resolve this issue;
2)ensure that police staff are treated no less favourably than police officers are when any or all of the three Christmas and New Year Bank Holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday, commencing 26 December 2009.
