Conference welcomes the President’s choice of Show Racism The Red Card as her project for her term of office.
Show Racism The Red Card is an anti-racist educational charity. Its aim is to combat racism through enabling role models, who are predominantly but not exclusively footballers, to present an anti-racist message to young people and others. UNISON has been a long-term supporter of the charity.
Show Racism The Red Card pursues its aim through:
1)producing educational resources;
2)developing activities to encourage people, including young people, to challenge racism;
3)challenging racism in the game of football and other sports.
This Conference believes that encouraging young people to challenge racism is an essential part of our anti-racist work. It also enables us to raise the profile of UNISON as a trade union and anti-racist organisation at the same time.
This Conference calls on the National Executive Council to encourage all branches to:
a)commit a regular monthly sum through standing order to support the work of Show Racism The Red Card;
b)Approach their employers to:
i)implement charitable pay-roll giving arrangments, if not already in place;
ii)publicise Show Racism the Red Card (Reg. Charity No. 1116971) as a potential beneficiary for such arrangements.
c)publicise Show Racism the Red Card to their members;
d)liaise with Show Racism the Red Card to organise local joint anti-racist events.
