Disclosure Policy/Procedure and Black People

Back to all Motions

Conference
2008 National Black Members' Conference
Date
4 September 2007
Decision
Carried as Amended

Conference welcomes the current legal requirement of carrying out security checks for all employees working with vulnerable people. However, Conference deplores the impact of the current procedures on Black workers.

In particular it deplores the high costs involved which are quite often detrimental to Black people especially if due to unavoidable circumstances they cannot get full time employment and therefore pursue a number of part time jobs that may require multiple security checks to be carried for each job application.

Therefore, Conference calls upon the NBMC to work with the National Executive Council in campaigning so that the Government can review the procedures of carrying out the security checks, especially the costs involved and set up:

1.A simple and common approach to the documentation used in all parts of the United Kingdom;

2.Lower and standardised charges for security checks;

3.Guaranteed timescale taken to process applications;

4.A single disclosure for each employer.
