POLICE CONTROL CENTRES -V- CALL CENTRES

Back to all Motions

Conference
2007 Police Staff Service Group Conference
Date
20 June 2007
Decision
Carried as Amended

Conference should resist any measure to compare Police control rooms with commercial call centres.

Studies in the USA have shown that there has been an improvement of service to members of the public and improvements to staff retention and morale when police control centre staff are treated as an integral part of the emergency services as opposed to being linked with commercial call centres.

Conference instructs the Service Group Executive to:

1.Seek an assurance from the Home Office and the National Policing Improvement Agency (NPIA) that any comparison should not take place.

2.Seek and collate information from forces where they are using such comparators.

3.Seek to campaign within the Home Office, Association of Chief police Officers, Association of Police Authorities the NPIA and with the public on how such comparisons and potential changes could affect the quality of service provided by our members.

4.Seek support from the police Staff Associations for this campaign.
