Occupational Registration Conduct and Standards

Back to all Motions

Conference
2007 National Delegate Conference
Date
16 February 2007
Decision
Carried

Conference acknowledges the expansion of occupational and professional registration conduct and standards, across the range of areas of UNISON membership.

In principle such registration procedures are to be welcomed in:

1)providing public protection and safeguards;

2)protecting practitioners against malicious claims;

3)enhancing standards of service and provision; and,

4)developing occupational and qualification standards as part of workforce development.

The expansion of the number of regulatory bodies and their impact upon an increasing number of UNISON members has implications for the union, in particular:

a)information and advice to workers;

b)standards of representation in an increasingly quasi legal process;

c)the variety of processes;

d)resourcing the demand;

e)publications and communications;

f)training and support.

Conference calls on the National Executive Council, through the Service Group Liaison Committee in consultation with the Regions, to produce a report for Conference 2009.

This report will:

i)scan the registration and regulation provisions;

ii)compare relative standards;

iii)make recommendations on:

A) resources;

B) training and development;

iv)review the Reported Publication and its processes.
