Local Government White Paper – Prosperous Communities

Conference
2007 Local Government Service Group Conference
Date
21 February 2007
Decision
Carried

This Conference notes the publication of the recent Government White Paper – Prosperous Communities. This Conference notes that for prosperous communities to exist, it requires there to be people in well paid jobs including the public sector. This conference further notes that the movement away from the provision of services by well funded public sector bodies, such as Local Councils, to the increased privatisation of services, means that our communities are no longer prosperous.

This Conference instructs the Service Group Executive to:

1Liaise with the relevant Government ministers to raise our concerns about the under funding of Local Government and its impact on the prosperity of our communities

2Provide advice and information to branches on how they can lobby their local politicians, including MPs, on the impact of the under funding of Local Government and how this affects the prosperity of our communities
