Blood Donation, Gay and Bisexual Men

Back to all Motions

Conference
2007 National LGBT Conference
Date
27 July 2007
Decision
Carried as Amended

Conference is concerned that just 6% of the adult population donate blood.

Conference also notes with concern that STI’s (inc HIV), are rising

fastest among sections of the Heterosexual population.

Conference calls on the National Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender Committee to work with sister unions via the TUC and UNISON Health Group to continue to address the issue of any man who has ever had sex with another man being banned from donating blood for life.

Conference is clear that it will keep revisiting this issue until any perception of discriminatory practice is eliminated.
