Disability Leave is an important agenda for the majority of our disabled members, as without this, through no fault of their own, they are subject to the timebound sickness procedures operated within organisations. We thank the National Disabled SOG Committee for the work that has been undertaken in compiling and distributing the Disability Policy Guidelines to our members and the branches. Unfortunately, there are still HR departments that are reluctant to implement this style of leave, in the belief that it will be abused.
We therefore request the National Disabled Members Committee undertake more research in this area, by:-
1)Identifying the areas and branches that already operate disability leave
2)Acquire the good practice and statistical evaluations of the scheme from these areas
3)Collate and disseminate the evaluations
4)Produce a report showing these good practice evaluations
5)Distribute to each Region & Branch
This information will then enable our representatives to take this issue back to the negotiating table with concrete statistical evaluations to support the negative viewpoint demonstrated by some organisations.
