Conference
2006 Retired Members' Conference
Date
14 June 2006
Decision
Carried

Defend Council Housing was set up in 1998 to fight against the privatisation of council housing and for direct investment to make council housing first class housing for all who need it. The campaign unites council tenants, trade unionists and activists around Britain.

UNISON is affiliated to Defend Council Housing.

UNISON branches and regional councils have been key players in tenant led campaigns to defend council housing, notably against the imposition of Arms Length Management Organisations (ALMOs).

Many retired people, including UNISON retired members, depend on their local authority for the provision of affordable, well-maintained and well-managed housing.

Conference calls on the National Retired Members’ Committee to publicise and promote the Defend Council Housing campaign among retired members.
