Citizenship Rights

Back to all Motions

Conference
2006 National Delegate Conference
Date
23 February 2006
Decision
Carried

Conference deplores the fact that children born in this country can be denied citizenship rights depending upon the nationality of their parents.

Conference notes that this disgraceful discrimination on grounds of nationality disporportionately disadvantages black and minority ethnic people and that an increasing number of young people have, for example, difficulty in obtaining passports to enable them to travel abroad.

Conference calls upon the National Executive Council to :

1)campaign within UNISON and the wider trade union movement for full citizenship rights for all those born in the UK;

2)work with Labour Link to lobby the government for urgent legislation to end this discrimination.
