Conference acknowledges the amount of LGBT publicity materials and information documents produced by UNISON. Conference, however, notes that Transgender specific materials are limited.
Conference is also aware that training on Transgender issues for UNISON members is very patchy, while welcoming the work that is being done, for example by Northern Ireland and Scotland LGBT groups.
Conference notes that there are a number of Transgender organisations that pecialise in the production of information leaflets, publicity and training on Transgender rights.
Conference therefore instructs the National LGBT Committee to work with relevant and appropriate Transgender organisations and UNISON Communications to:
1.Produce a recruitment leaflet aimed specifically at transgender members;
2.Update and re-issue factsheets and information materials on transgender equality and rights.
Conference further instructs the National LGBT Committee to enter into discussions with relevant and appropriate Transgender organisations and UNISON’s Learning and Organising Services with a view to introducing specific training on Transgender rights and equality for UNISON members.
