Conference congratulates the Scottish Executive on producing the document “Improving Policy and Practice for LGBT People – Guidance for Local Authorities”, which is based on an extensive piece of research carried out by them in 2005. The document contains positive advice to assist councils to assess their progress in developing their policies and practice in relation to LGBT people, as well as some practical suggestions about good practice. The document also contains an extremely useful checklist intended to support councils by highlighting where actions may not have been taken, or where actions may assist in providing the council with a more inclusive approach to developing policies and service for LGBT people. This document will be useful for a variety of organisations as well as councils.
Conference urges members to obtain this document for their branches and to urge that branches request that the checklist be completed by employers.
