General Social Care Council Register

Conference

Date

Decision
Remitted

Conference notes the recently introduced General Social Care Council Register, which includes the town in which a person works and is available via the world wide web to any member of the public.

Conference is concerned that this may particularly problematic for Social Care staff who may have worked in service areas where threats of personal harm are common, for example, as Probation Officers working with serious offenders and now may be made easily locatable thus placing them at increased risk. Conference also believes that this is of greater concern to LGBT workers. Conference notes that UNISON raised these concerns with the General Social Care Council before the Register was introduced. This resulted in an exceptional facility for the town to be removed from the Register where there are specific concerns about harm to the staff member. However, this facility has not been publicised by the General Social Care Council and most people potentially affected are not aware of it.

Conference therefore instructs the Service Group Executive to raise these concerns with the General Social Care Council and ask for these issues of concern to be addressed.
