- Conference
- 2006 National Black Members' Conference
- Date
- 25 September 2005
- Decision
- Carried
This Conference deplores the fact that children born in this country can be denied citizenship rights depending upon the nationality of their parents.
We note that this disgraceful discrimination on grounds of nationality disproportionately disadvantages black and ethnic minority people and that an increasing number of young people have, for example, difficulty in obtaining passport to enable them to travel abroad.
Conference calls upon the NBMC to campaign within UNISON and the wider trade union movement for full citizenship rights for all those born in the UK, and to urge the NEC, working in conjunction with UNISON Labour Link, to lobby the Government for urgent legislation to end this discrimination.
