Conference has always agreed that we want more women to become active and involved in all aspects of UNISON.
But still barriers are placed in their way and this leads to frustration and allows the accusation of hypocrisy to be levelled at some sections of UNISON.
We encourage women to attend UNISON conferences both National/Service Group/SOGs and many women like to experience these conferences first as a visitor. This helps them gain confidence and enthuses them regarding involvement in the union, but if these women want to bring children, if they attend as a visitor, this is not allowed, only at Women’s Conference. Therefore, we ask that the National Women’s Committee raise this issue once again with the National Executive Council.
