OPTICAL AND DENTAL PROVISION

Back to all Motions

Conference
2005 Retired Members' Conference
Date
11 October 2005
Decision
Carried as Amended

Conference recognises that ageing brings about the natural need for more optical and dental care. The costs of these essential services are constantly rising whilst pension increases lag well behind. Furthermore, dental care on the NHS is hardly available. More than five million pensioners are now subject to the means test for help to purchase spectacles, dental treatment and dentures. It is essential that older citizens are given proper and freely available optical and dental services whenever there is need.

Conference requests the National Retired Members’ Committee to use all avenues open to it to lobby the government for improved services, for such services to be delivered free at the point of need, and for free spectacles, dental treatment and dentures for all citizens of pensionable age.
