Conference
Police Staff Service Group Conference 2005
Date
25 February 2005
Decision
Carried

This Conference notes that the Police Staff Service Group represents around 32,000 members. The vast majority of whom are members of the Local Government Pension Scheme.

Conference is alarmed at Government Proposals to significantly weaken our pension provision. Furthermore, we are deeply concerned that as public sector workers we could be denied the right to access our deferred pay.

This Conference congratulates UNISON for carrying out what has been an excellent campaign to protect our Pension rights. However, we note with deep regret, the failure of our Service Group Executive, to carry out adequate, meaningful consultation of our members with regard to their preference as to what type of action they would be prepared to undertake. This failure shows at best a lack of understanding of the Industrial Action legislative time limits, or at worst, a blatant disregard for the democratic principles of the Trade Union movement.

Conference therefore instructs the Service Group Executive to:

1)Report back to branches as a matter of urgency, a full written explanation of :

a)events which led to a decision not to undertake a full consultative ballot

b)the results of liaison with the Local Government Service Group as required by Motion 6 of 2004 Conference

2)Ensure that any future decisions as to future possible Industrial Action are taken only after full member consultation.
