Council Tax Relief

Conference
2004 Retired Members' Conference
Date
11 October 2004
Decision
Carried

Whilst appreciating the action taken by the government for those national insurance retired pensioners over the age of 70, by the one off payment of £100 to alleviate the effects of the rising council tax, Conference notes with regret that the government is still practising ageism by rewarding the £100 council tax relief only to pensioners who are 70 years of age or over.

Conference requests that the National Executive Council make representations to government to avoid discrimination by awarding the same payment to pensioners under the age of 70.
