Violence in Social Care Field

Back to all Motions

Conference
2004 Local Government Service Group Conference
Date
1 March 2004
Decision
Carried

Conference recognises that the vulnerability of children and adults with special needs or challenging behaviour is readily acknowledged by staff working in the social care field.

However, Conference notes with concern both the increasing numbers of attacks on staff and also the increase in allegations of assault against staff and the lack of procedures and processes to support staff at this time.

Conference calls upon the Service Group Executive to:

1)Develop a campaign to raise awareness of the issues involved

2)To actually lobby social care employers to institute procedures which recognise and protects the human rights of staff who may have been falsely accused

3)To ensure that staff who have been assaulted are given the full support of employers and are actively encouraged to report incidents to the police and risk assessments are conducted and controls instituted to minimise the risk of attack
