Conference
2003 National Women's Conference
Date
23 October 2002
Decision
Carried

Conference welcomes the findings of the House of Lords in the Fairchild case making it easier for the victims of occupational asbestos related diseases to obtain compensation.

Nonetheless, Conference notes with concern that this does little to address the situation of families, especially women, who have contracted industrial diseases as the result of industrial contamination brought into the home or into other workplaces such as laundries.

Conference calls on the National Women’s Committee to:

1)Raise awareness of the issue;

2)Support research into the extent of the problem;

3)Encourage affiliation to and publicise information about local asbestos action groups;

4)Campaign vigorously for the extension of rights for the victims of secondary contamination.
