Trades Union Congress Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (TUC LGBT) Conference

Back to all Motions

Conference
2003 National Lesbian & Gay Conference
Date
1 August 2003
Decision
Carried as Amended

Congress recalls its view that the Trades Union Congress Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (TUC LGBT) Conference should not always be held in London. (Resolution 17 of the eighth National Lesbian and Gay Conference, 2000.)

Moreover, it notes that, this year, the conference was held later than usual and on dates which, as far as most English schools are concerned, was during the holiday rather than term-time. Although this is a factor which certainly affected delegates’ availability, this decision was taken in line with previous decisions to link TUC LGBT Conference with Pride in London.

This later date also fell after the closing date for Congress motions so that the LGBT Conference’s motion to Congress did not appear in the Congress preliminary agenda.

Conference therefore calls upon the TUC to review its arrangements in consultation with the affiliated unions to ensure they meet the needs of the greatest number of LGBT trade unionists.

It instructs the National Lesbian and Gay Committee to pursue this with the TUC LGBT Committee.
