Conference recalls resolutions of earlier conferences expressing concern whether the UNISON PLUS partner companies offer UNISON members a consistently non discriminatory service. It recalls particularly the resolution of the sixth conference which instructed the National Lesbian and Gay Committee to work with the National Executive Council to remind companies of the importnat that their policies do not discriminate and that their local representatives are trained not to do so.
Conference notes that on 27th March 2002 the Britannia Building Society adverised in the Guardian for a Diversity Manager.
Conference is dismayed that noting in the advertisement suggested that the job remit or the Society’s diversity strategy takes account of lesbians and gay men. Indeed, it included the statement, “we are committed to people and do not build barriers on the basis or race, sex or disability.”
Conference instructs the National Lesbian and Gay Committee:
1.To take all appropriate steps to get the Britannia Building Society to include lesbians and gay men in its diversity strategy.
2.To raise anew with the National Executive Council the need to conduct a regular equality audit of each of the partner companies
