Our Future, Your Say – Consultation

The College of Operating Department Practitioners is consulting on its future and we want your views.

Since 2006, the College has been a part of UNISON. While being part of a large, established organisation has enabled several successes for the College, there have also been some limitations. For example, the ability to respond in an agile manner to external funding opportunities. Furthermore, some ODPs have expressed a desire for an independent College with its own governance arrangements to operate a separate membership which is no longer contingent on trade union membership.

A CODP ‘Strategy 2028’ has been developed to set out the vision for the College over the next 5 years. It sets out the intention to find a way to transition to an independent organisation. A consultation with ODPs will help the College examine the feasibility of various options.

We want to choose the option that is right for ODPs now, and for the future.

Pay Ballot – Vote Yes for the NHS

UNISON’s industrial action ballot in the NHS in England opens on 27 October and closes on 25 November. The College encourages all ODPs who are members of UNISON or any other union to use their ballot vote. The government has put in place the most restrictive trade union laws meaning every vote counts. If large numbers of NHS staff vote to take action this can use this as evidence for why employers/government should talk to unions now so that action can be averted.

You can find out more about the ballot and UNISON’s pay campaign on by visiting our dedicated website.

Visit our NHS Pay Campaign website

In addition, the HCPC have set out their position that ODPs, like other HCPC registered professions, have the right to take part in lawful industrial action.

We’re calling on all ODPs to return their ballot papers and Vote Yes for the NHS.

Assistance to the Anaesthetist and Anaesthesia Associate

The College receives a number of enquiries regarding assistance to the Anaesthetist. For clarification, we have produced a CODP Position Statement.

The College is delighted to announce that it has become a member of the Council for Allied Health Professions Research (CAHPR).
