Planning Pride

Pride events, in all their forms, are a highlight of UNISON’s calendar. Here we’ll help you make the most of them.

Effective organising

How can we most effectively organise Pride events? How can we use them to recruit new members and activists? And how can we combat the commercialisation of Pride? Our new guide is packed with helpful information, ideas and case studies.

Pride in procurement

Pride events agitate for LGBT+ rights and liberation in the UK and abroad. Yet the stories of those who make Pride merchandise are often unseen and unheard.

UNISON has worked with Labour Behind the Label to help activists planning Pride events source merchandise from suppliers that align with their values.

Only around 40% of countries have legislation to protect LGBT+ workers from discrimination.

Our helpful guide gives a brief background on worker and LGBT+ protection in global supply chains, and questions whether brands releasing Pride collections show true solidarity or just want to capture the so-called ‘pink pound’.

It includes a useful checklist for anyone sourcing merchandise  – from Pride committees planning local celebrations, to employers procuring rainbow lanyards – and will help us use our purchasing power to make change.

Procurement guide

UNISON has created a guide for activists involved in planning Pride events, including a template ethical procurement policy and template letters to send to suppliers.
