About this job

UNISON is committed to improving the working lives of its members and securing equality and rights for their families and communities. This role is at the heart of our mission and the post holder will work with the Regional Organiser (Education) and the Regional Management Team to develop and support the education and training interventions and projects that will enable us to meet our aims and objectives.

The Regional Learning & Development Organiser (RLDO) will be based in UNISON’s Belfast Office but the job may require travelling across the NI region.

The RLDO is part of a team with responsibility for providing resources and ensuring high quality delivery of a comprehensive programme of education, training and support, to ensure that all elected representatives in UNISON have the confidence, knowledge and skills to carry out their roles effectively.

The RLDO will work with the branches, the education team and wider organising team to identify member learning, help create bespoke learning packages to assist members with continuous professional development and encourage engagement with their union. In particular, the role will include recruiting and training Union Learning reps to promote learning (especially maths, English and digital skills) to underrepresented groups; supporting branches and employers to set up long term projects for supporting learners; working with employers to achieve learning agreements; identifying and promoting appropriate learning opportunities to work with UNISON members across Northern Ireland; and supporting the development and delivery of a range of learning workshops and programmes relevant to personal development and the Union Learn Funds priorities

The successful candidate will bring their experience and skills in Lifelong Learning and / or within a trade union setting and understanding and appreciation of the link between learning and union organising.

With knowledge of adult learning in its various forms, workplace and community, formal and informal, and with a strong understanding of union organising, you’ll have the experience to enable you to develop and manage learning opportunities for key target groups. You will be well organised with the ability to work in a team and able to take lead responsibility for projects.
