Blackpool fights back against nursery cuts

UNISON Blackpool is fighting back against plans to close the last two council-run nurseries in the town

UNISON Blackpool is fighting back against plans to close the last two council-run nurseries in the town.

A march and rally on 27 July followed protests last week against the council’s plans to close its final nurseries, in Grange Park and Talbot and Brunswick.

The nurseries, both of which are in deprived parts of the town, are well-used, also serving as focal points for local communities.

The council has announced that it intends to close both nurseries at the end of August, due to central government funding cuts. The plan would mean the loss of 26 jobs.

Parents, children and staff are united in opposing these closures.
