We begin the week with news that RBS chief executive Stephen Hester will turn down his bonus - something he decided to do after fierce opposition from our union and others.
It is time that the government stopped talking, and started taking real action on bankers' bonuses especially in those banks that are owned mainly by the taxpayer. It is totally wrong for bankers who caused this crisis to be making millions in bonuses while public sector workers face job cuts, pay freezes and are struggling to make ends meet.
Despite the rhetoric about moral capitalism, the government was not willing to step in when taxpayers needed it, showing just how out of touch with public opinion the coalition really is.
UNISON will be keeping up the pressure on the government to safeguard fairness and take action on inequality. Join us -
