UNISON is London's biggest trade union with 130,000 members across the capital. Our members are people working in the public services, or for private contractors providing public services and the essential utilities.
They include frontline staff and managers working full or part time in local authorities, the NHS, colleges and schools, universities, the electricity, gas and water industries, transport and the voluntary sector. Members are organised into 152 branches.
UNISON's priorities in Greater London include campaigning for a living wage and promoting equality for all our members.
The UNISON Welfare Annual General Meeting & Seminar will take place in Croyde Bay from 30 April to 2 May 2010.
The British National Party (BNP) has 12 Councillors on Barking & Dagenham Borough Council. Their ambition is to take control of the council in May 2010 when all council seats are up for election. Added to this, Nick Griffin, Leader of the BNP, is challenging Margaret Hodge MP, to become the Member of Parliament for Barking.
UNISON Welfare, UNISON’s registered charity. With an annual income of over £1million, paid staff and a network of volunteers UNISON Welfare is active in supporting members and their families.
Our trustees are responsible for directing the charity in line with its mission and ensuring the organisation is managed effectively.
With the current term of office for six of our Trustees coming to an end in April 2010 the present Board is now looking to recruit Trustees.
Activists working in the Private Sector are invited to a further Private Contractors Seminar, following the two previous successful events run in the Greater London Region. The next seminar will be held on 20 March 2010 and will address current topics relevant to this group of staff.

The Health Training Day for 2010 will take place on Friday 8 October at Congress Centre.
The East London Mental Health UNISON Branch have been working with a progressive and radical health project addressing mental health needs in Hackney and East London.
Following intensive discussions at the Social Partnership Forum (SPF) - including meetings with government ministers - a policy statement that the NHS is the preferred provider of health services, has been signed off by the Secretary of State. The statement can be downloaded here –
