NHS staff are tired of working without enough colleagues at their side. UNISON members are taking action.
Every report says the same: we don’t have enough staff, with enough time to provide our patients with the care they need.
Politicians make promises but nothing seems to change. You’re left picking up the slack while no-one holds your organisation to account.
That’s why we in UNISON are saying Only Enough is Enough.
This October and November, UNISON branches across the UK launched public campaigns to force action on safe staffing.
Registered nurse or midwife? How can I get involved?
If you’re in one of the following locations, please get in touch with your local branch to get involved:
-
- Aneurin Bevan Branch
- Barking, Havering and Brentwood Health
- Basildon Southend & Mid Essex Health UNISON
- Cambridge University Hospitals Branch
- Cardiff & Vale Health Branch
- Colchester and Ipswich Area Health
- Cornwall Acute Health
- Derby & Burton Hospitals Branch
- Essex Partnership University Foundation Trust
- Hastings & Eastbourne Healthcare
- Highland Healthcare
- Liverpool Hospitals Health
- Manchester University Healthcare

- Plymouth in UNISON
- Worcestershire Community
- Devon Partnership and Community Health
Our 2024 report outlines just how sever this issue is.
Healthcare providers are accountable by law for providing safe care. But too often they’re able to turn a blind eye to the challenges you face providing care every day.
It’s important you are able to speak up with confidence and report unsafe staffing levels at work. Read our new and updated guidance:
You can support the campaign by:
- Joining UNISON as a member today
- Completing our Only Enough is Enough survey after every shift during October and November in participating branches
- Sharing campaign materials in your workplace
- Getting involved as a leader in the campaign – contact your local branch now
The campaign focuses on nursing and midwifery staff, but all NHS staff in the pilot branches are welcome to share their experiences of safe staffing in the survey.
