Write to your MP and ask them to stand up for British Gas employees.

We’re helping our members stand up to British Gas.

The company has served notice on its entire workforce and is pushing employees to accept significantly worse terms and conditions of employment.

The new conditions include:

  • Reduced annual leave
  • Reduced sick pay
  • Reduced overtime rates
  • Longer working hours
  • Removal of contractual redundancy pay

The company has also served formal notice of its intention to end all recognition agreements with staff unions, of which UNISON is the largest. This means staff would have no access to union representation.

We are currently in talks with British Gas to get them to reconsider these new conditions, but if we fail to reach an agreement, we will ask our members whether they will be willing to take industrial action.

We have had a long, cooperative relationship with the employer going back many decades. The current move is an unprecedented attack by British Gas on a loyal and productive workforce.

What you can do now:

We’re encouraging staff and their friends and family to write to their MPs and urge them to stand up for employees.

Make sure your details are up to date via MyUnison so we can contact you about further action.
