HCSWs at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH) are entering their third round of strike action in a long-running dispute over backpay. After taking 15 days of action in April, May, and June, they are now taking a 14 consecutive days of strike action.
To date, NUH has failed to make a fair offer that compensates HCSWs for years of working above their pay grade—particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. In recent ACAS negotiations, the Trust’s offer amounted to just one extra day of annual leave (limited to this year), and they continue to deny that HCSWs played a critical clinical role during the pandemic.
We hope that this extended industrial action will push NUH to return to the table with a reasonable offer.
Our members are low-paid workers—primarily women, many of whom work part-time. While the local branch has been actively raising funds to support hardship claims, the escalating action is stretching their resources. Any financial contributions would make a significant difference.
