Labour split is ‘terrible news’

Working people need a Labour government but split parties don’t win elections

Commenting on the announcement today (Monday) that seven Labour MPs have resigned from the party and are to sit as an independent group,UNISON general secretary Dave Prentis said:

“This is terrible news and the last thing public service employees across the UK will want to hear.

“Working people need a Labour government but split parties don’t win elections. Labour’s overriding concern must be to look long and hard at the reasons why the MPs feel they are no longer able to stay in the party.

“The party must get its act together over Brexit and ensure the country is spared the calamity of a no deal. Crashing out of Europe would be disastrous for public services and ordinary people across the country, and it must be stopped.”
