Brexiteers Michael Gove and Boris Johnson guilty of ‘nauseating cynicism’ over the NHS

Brexiteers Michael Gove and Boris Johnson are guilty of ‘nauseating cynicism’ in pretending to care about the NHS when they belong to a government that is to blame for ‘eye-watering’ public service cuts, UNISON general secretary Dave Prentis will warn later today.

In a speech at the Our NHS: Safer IN rally at the TUC’s Congress House in London, Dave Prentis will say the pair will stop at almost nothing to try and convince voters that Britain should leave the EU.

Dave Prentis will say: “I don’t think I’ve ever seen a national campaign as grubby and deceitful as the one being waged by the Brexiteers.

“The likes of Michael Gove and Boris Johnson have been rampant cheerleaders for eye-watering austerity. Yet now they masquerade as the friend of public servant and public service user.

“Their nauseating cynicism insults the intelligence of the British people. They pretend to care about working people’s interests while cheerleading for a government that has cut hundreds of thousands of public sector jobs.

“The cuts have also put intolerable pressure on our already overstretched public services.

“The NHS is already at breaking point and we can’t risk the economic shock and political turmoil that Brexit would bring.

“It’s absolutely reprehensible for the Vote Leave campaign to claim the NHS would be better off outside the EU. It’s a dangerous lie – I’m sick of British people being lied to and the NHS being part of that big lie.”
