UNISON comments on figures on ‘never events’ in the NHS

Commenting on the latest figures showing the scale of never events in the NHS, UNISON head of health Christina McAnea said: “Never events really should never happen and it is hard to imagine the trauma for those involved.  Sadly these events are a symptoms of the under investment of the NHS which has left services understaffed, and under resourced. As a result staff are exhausted as they have to work through their breaks and often beyond their shifts. No health worker goes into work with the intention to cause harm. But the risk increases with an overworked workforce.”
