UNISON is proud to support Hope not Hate’s weekend of action, taking place on 18-19 October, which aims to bring people together in a show of unity and solidarity.
In recent weeks, the Tommy Robinson march, and the divisive use of flags in some communities have sought to spread fear and division. This weekend of action is a chance to send a very different message — one of hope, resilience, and togetherness.
The campaign encourages people across the country to take a simple action in their own neighbourhoods by leafleting their street and sharing a positive message of community in the face of rising hostility.
UNISON general secretary Christian McAnea said: “Hope not Hate’s weekend of action is an important moment. It’s an opportunity to send a clear message – to unify our communities and show that the events of recent weeks do not represent who we are.
“We oppose racism and celebrate our multiculturalism. Please support this weekend if you can.”
