This June, UNISON’s special delegate conference voted to pass motion 72 – supporting our branches. It was the culmination of two years of work for the branch resources review and offered a package of proposals to provide more regional support and funds, as well as help save activists time.

Proposals include:

  • a new funding scheme for branches;
  • enhanced bargaining support; and
  • easier access to resources. For a full list of the proposals, see here.

Over the coming weeks and months, UNISON will offer updates on when branches can see items rolled out, via the branch resources review webpage.

One of the first things will be a new branch funding formula (including a three-year transitional period) from January 2022. Over the next month, branches will receive an explanation of how this will be done and what they can expect to see next year.

UNISON general secretary Christina McAnea said: “Conference backed the review recommendations, and staff and the NEC are working together to implement them. The proposals need to be turned into real benefits for our branches.”
