UNISON, along with GMB, NEU and Unite, is urging school staff and parents to email their MP to raise concerns about the surge in COVID-19 cases and related absences in schools since the start of the Autumn term.
The government’s own data shows that COVID-19 cases among school-age children reached a record high on 30 September, with nearly 200,000 pupils being absent from school. Staff absence rates are also increasing.
Developing the email tool is the latest in a series of interventions UNISON has made in an effort to put pressure on the government to reintroduce safety measures in schools.
Last week, UNISON wrote to the Secretary of State, as well as chief executives and directors of public health at all local authorities in England. UNISON also contacted all MPs urging them to put pressure on the government to act.
By emailing your MP with your views, you will be helping to provide evidence they can use in raising the issues in Parliament.
