University employers and unions have come together to encourage staff across the higher education sector to accept the chance of COVID-19 vaccinations.

The University and Colleges Employers’ Association (UCEA), EIS, GMB, UCU, UNISON and Unite have agreed a joint statement on the issue, supporting the current roll out of coronavirus vaccines across the UK. The signatories pledge to work together to encourage uptake.

The statement encourages all HE staff to get vaccinated when offered the opportunity, and recommends that employers in the sector give paid time off to enable staff to attend vaccination appointments where it is not possible to schedule an appointment outside working hours.

UNISON hopes that this helps further discussions and efforts at institutional level.
