Commenting on a speech by shadow cabinet office minister Rachel Reeves today (Monday) about private contracts in the public sector, UNISON general secretary Christina McAnea said:
“The Labour Party is right to call for public services to be brought back in-house.
“Privatisation and outsourcing have been a failure for the public and the employees delivering public services.
“The UK needs a different kind of economy, where health, education, police and local services are properly funded, and those who work in them are paid the decent wages they deserve.”
Notes to editors:
– UNISON is the UK’s largest union, with more than 1.3 million members providing public services – in education, local government, the NHS, police service and energy. They are employed in both the public and private sectors.
