Organise 2020: TUC’s free festival launches next week

The TUC’s festival of ideas runs from 9-11 July – and there are plenty of remote events to sign up for

As union membership in the UK rises for the third year running, the TUC is bringing the movement together to rebuild collective strength – and even in the era of COVID-19, there’s a big range of activities available online to take part in.

Speaking about the event, UNISON assistant general secretary Roger McKenzie said: Organise 2020 is a great opportunity to hear about some of the innovative organising campaigns that are taking place across the World.

“The important thing will be not just to listen to the talks, but to act and to use Organise 2020 to inspire our own organising work.”

Scheduled discussions will cover issues such as opposing the far right, achieving a zero carbon economy in a fair and just way, and organising for equality.

Some of the speakers include:

  • deputy Labour Party leader Angela Rayner MP;
  • Carmen Foro, the general secretary of CUT (Brazil);
  • Tefere Gebre, the executive vice-president of AFL-CIO (US); and
  • Lebogang Mulaisi, labour market policy co-ordinator, Cosatu, (South Africa).
